When Luna stands on the beach, with the sand between her toes, she doesn't see freedom in the water; she sees a watery prison holding her against her will. A prison that she calls home.
As a mermaid, Luna is bound to the ocean, only getting to walk on land during the during the day of the full moon, a pleasure which she enjoys every month, distancing herself from her sisters in the water. During her time on land, she meets Aaron, charming, handsome and rebellious, and falls in love, an emotion that only exists because of her humanity.
When Luna learns that she has been lief to by the women she calls family, she turns to Aaron and her aunt on land for support, but when tragedy strikes there too, she must learn to deal with her human emotions and find her rightful place in the world.
